Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Grow
Ready? Let’s go!
As I long for summer, will I miss the fullness of spring? Last night we finished planting our small little garden in a back corner of our yard. With clay and rocks in the soil, my husband built raised planters this year. Hoping to add fresh and new soil to help the tiny things grow.
We planted the usual, and a few unusual plants just for fun. To see if they will grow. As if to bless our efforts, a lightening storm swept by a few minutes after we had finished cleaning up. Its a funny thing, how lightening and thunder enrich the soil. How God’s creation is just created to grow. How He has made all of the elements work together to produce new life. Abundant life.
As a new creature in Christ, the new life is for my heart as well. In the seasons when rain is pouring down, I find my faith is hard to find. It feels pointless and a little harsh to never get your head above the waters. Yet, it is the storms which enrich my faith and provide the growth.
Just as the soil, water, and tiny green succulents were made to grow, so was I. He has made all that I am: my personality, my circumstances, my life to be perfect elements working together to produce an abundant life. A fruitful life. I am a branch for my Father to produce fruit.
I need only abide. Abide in the Vine and growth will come. Producing an abundant life. A life full of fruit.
